ADEK is the educational authority of the emirate of Abu Dhabi. Founded in 2005 by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the emirate’s president, adek is responsible for the management and administration of public and private schools throughout the emirate.
adek’s vision is ‘Education First’ and its mission is to establish an effective education system that contributes to the development of a knowledge-based economy in the UAE. The organisation also promotes a culture of competition and innovation from early stages of learning, so students are better equipped for global opportunities.

ADEK was formed following the establishment of ADEC, the educational authority of Abu Dhabi which was renamed in 2018. The organisation aims to monitor and regulate education authorities across the emirate to ensure they are providing high quality educational services and are in line with statutory regulations.

The department is also responsible for the implementation of strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing education outcomes for all students. His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed, Member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office, visited ADEK recently to review progress on the strategic initiatives and approve the implementation of innovative approaches to learning.
The department has launched a new initiative – the Charter Schools Project – aiming to establish a third education model in the emirate, through the exchange of expertise between the public and private sectors. This will help to optimise the resources available and improve learning outcomes for all students.
